Teeth Grinding - Is it normal?
Teeth grinding is commonly seen in adults and children. A dental office will not go a day without seeing the signs and symptoms. BUT, it is NOT normal.
Teeth grinding is associated with impaired nasal breathing, habitual mouth breathing, narrow palates, restricted tongue mobility, and swollen tonsils. While sleeping the body goes into a stress state because of a struggle to breathe. The bottom jaw thrusts forward. This can be due to obstruction, resistance or snoring. When we can’t breathe optimally while sleeping, it is a problem.
Symptoms
- Teeth - broken, worn enamel, cracks, root canals, tori
- Headache
- Poor sleep
- Muscle tension
- Jaw joint pain
Airway issues are often the root cause. 8 of 10 of my patients have symptoms of grinding. Get to the bottom of clenching/grinding issues that are destroying your teeth while you sleep.
