6 Signs of Dysfunctional Breathing

6  Signs of Suboptimal Breathing😮‍💨Take Control For Restful Sleep and A Calm Mind

Breathing may seem straightforward, I mean you're doing it right now. Everyday all day. However, many of us have adopted less than ideal patterns without even realizing it. The way you are breathing may be unknowingly holding you back.

1. Chest breathing: Breathing into the chest rather than the diaphragm restricts the full engagement of your lung.

2. Mouth Breathing: Breathing through the mouth can lead to anxiety, increased cavities and a less robust immune system.

3. Fast Breathing: Breathing at a rapid rate of more than 10 breaths per minute can contribute to stress and a racing mind.

4. Audible and Sighing Breaths: Loud or sighing breaths often signal poor breathing patterns that fail to optimize oxygen intake.

5. Erratic Breathing: An irregular pattern, such as quick breaths followed by holding your breath disrupts the body’s balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide.

6. Large and Forceful Inhales: Taking in too much air can decrease carbon dioxide levels, which can cause its own set of health issues.

Poor breathing not only limits your physical and mental health during the day, BUT all night while you sleep too. Common symptoms include snoring, sleep apnea, and waking up feeling unrested. All of which are signs that your body is not breathing optimally through the night and affecting your day.

Don’t worry, you can improve your breathing. Practicing holding your breath is a fun and challenging way to fast track your breathing improvements and is a meditation like no other. Take control of your breath for better health, restful sleep and a calm mind.
